The safety and security of our businesses and residents within the City of Covington is of paramount importance to officers of the Division of Police. Officers routinely check local business to insure that doors are secure and that they are free from vandalism or break-ins. The Division uses vehicles, bicycles and foot patrol to check business areas throughout the city. Officers also have established alarm procedures to follow when local business alarms are activated. Officers must always respond to the scene of an alarm to insure that all is well. Most alarms end up being false activations of the alarm systems, but officers are required to respond to each and every alarm activations. Business checks are part of the normal day to day operations of the Division of Police and do not have to be requested. Business owners need only to request business checks when unusual circumstances are present and extra patrol are required. Residential checks are conducted during the nighttime hours for those persons out of town on vacation or experiencing other problems at their residence. Those persons requesting vacation house checks can submit their request on line via the form located on this web site by clicking the above hyperlink or by calling the department at 540-965-6333. Persons having other incidents occurring at their residence such as vandalisms or prowlers should contact the department by telephone to submit an incident report.

As part of it's normal patrol duties, department officers routinely check areas business to insure that they are secure. During the midnight shift officers are assigned districts and the responsibility of checking all business within their district. Officers are also assigned to the Police Mountain Bike patrol and routinely check businesses in the downtime area during the evening and nighttime hours. |
